Aspire to achieve more!
Steps To Success
Steps to success are simple:
1. Preparation for peak performance - do the technical and psychological preparation that will ensure your BIG achievement.
2. Peak performance - go and do it! If satisfied repeat step 2. If you are not satisfied, repeat the steps 1 and 2.
Always aspire for more!
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.” - Albert Einstein
Everyone has a different idea about what success is. For someone it is acquiring material wealth, for another it is fame and glory, for another it can be having power, for someone else, serenity and peace of mind, spiritual growth, happy emotional relationship etc. Big success for one is insignificant for other and vice versa. However success always implies both achievement and a feeling of fulfillment. The important thing is that everyone strives for success in one way or another and the development of our civilization is based on this pursuit. As we develop as individuals so our society develops.
In its essence aspiring to succeed is an aspiration for development and self-realization. Everyone, reading this article, has experienced some personal discontentment and knows intuitively that there is more to life than what our five senses bring to mind and maybe even hears his or her inner voice urging: you can do better, aspire to achieve more... But then the voice of the rational mind says: this is impossible to happen, I'm not good in …, I can't succeed without... Rational mind fights the intuitive mind and in our rational-based society rational mind wins.
For many years the belief was that exceptional achievement belongs to the high intelligent quotient of the individual. Western culture has made a fetish of academic knowledge and school training is focused on obtaining knowledge and skills that develop logical thinking. As a matter of fact the IQ test aims to measure the abilities for abstract thinking and logical processing of information of an individual. However the results from various research indisputably prove that the correlation between IQ and success in the life of an individual is low.
Even if we assume that successful people are those with a high IQ, how come that the members of Mensa International are not millionaires while some millionaires have not graduated from school, let alone from university. Many people would give up trying to accomplish anything in their lives because they did not get excellent marks at school and would have accepted the sentence that the educational system gave them that they are good for nothing. Luckily Albert Einstein who started walking and talking late as a child and later had fairly mediocre academic achievements at school was not amongst those. Actually there are no special schools or universities for exceptional and top achievements. For example Leo Tolstoy left the university in his third year before graduating and yet he created world-famous novels like War and Peace and Anna Karenina. The wealthiest man on the planet Bill Gates did not finish his education at Harvard University and the highest-earning Hollywood stars did not even study acting.
There are various research showing that less than 20% of career advancement, remuneration levels and the presence of satisfying emotional life correlate to the levels of IQ. That means there is something more important than logical thinking, that affects the quality of a human's life. More and more often the scientists use the terminology “emotional intelligence” when they are explaining the better advancement of a individual compared to his or her peers.
In a MIT research on the human behaviourur of top managers, only on the basis of information regarding their social behaviour collected during a party, the scientists managed to predict the winner amongst them on a business plan presentation. The researchers did that without even attending the presentation! Thus they proved that energetic people with positive attitude are the big achievers. The conclusion is that the enthusiasm, energy and fervor that we apply to our work and communication with other people affects our results in a predictable way. Or in other words putting emotion together with knowledge pays off. Intuitively we always knew that the right attitude, the strong motivation coming from emotion and the self-confidence lead to success.
As we explore the way our rational mind functions we'll see that it is an excellent tool that focuses on the outside world and takes in, sorts out and stores complex information in an organized way so that we can make generalization and abstraction, analysis and self-analysis, planning and social behaviour. Thanks to its linear logic we are able to see how a cause is followed by an effect, we seek and find proofs for our thesis. In this place two plus two makes four.
On the other hand the emotional brain is orientated towards the realm of inner experiences and is dominated by emotions whether negative or positive. This creative space is the source of ideas and fantasies, of brilliant visions for the innovative, of unexpected solutions for difficult problems and here of course is the residence of the intuition. Great artists and authors have always related inspiration to strong emotion. Big inventions originated here as the emotional mind applies non-linear logic where possibilities are found in the impossible and two plus two makes five, six or even sixteen.
At any moment we perceive the world by both parts of the brain having a logical thought and a feeling that complete the perception. Some people are dominated by rational thinking while others are more emotional and intuitive, however all of us use both parts of our brains more or less. Brain scientists prove that people can achieve best results and their work is most effective when both parts of the brain are balanced and working in harmony. This is how they explain emotional intelligence and claim that a balanced brain brings serenity and inner peace.
Everyone can figure out whether he or she uses the brain effectively by noticing which part is predominantly used in everyday life. The overload of information in our contemporary society pushes us to use our rational mind to extremes in order to process and manage it. Rarely we take the time to listen to our inner feelings. In addition our culture encourages intentional suppressing of emotions starting from very young age when boys are told that it's not manly to cry and girls are not allowed to express negative feelings as not being feminine.
When we refuse to acknowledge and master the power of our feelings we are oblivious to the fact that we consciously give up a significant part of ourselves. Trying so hard to be rational and grounded we bury the creative aspect of our fantasies and imagination which is the source of intuitive insights and stroke of genius. Therefore when we have a bright idea to make million dollars, by the force of habit we take a commonsense approach: “Oh, I have never made millions, why now” using only our linear logic. Indeed, our rational mind has not stored such information for us and logically we have to give up the idea. What we do actually is giving up our future by accepting that our destiny is stored in the past.
It may be true that we don't have connections, time, starting capital or other material conditions to succeed but if we are totally devoted to our purpose, if we are creative, if we are resourceful and determined, if we are full of enthusiasm, can anything stand in our way? Allowing more emotion, more intuition to come out from inside, using our feelings to inspire us is allowing our brain to work at full capacity!
I can hear what you say to yourself: Oh, but I am neither Tolstoy nor Bill Gates. Realize that this thought comes from half of your brain and you have another half too. If you think you don't have enough qualities, talents or resources to achieve personal or material success, it is not because you don't have but because you have not figured out how to successfully apply what you have. In addition, having your internal talk repeat such a limiting belief keeps you away from your personal fulfillment. Every man came to Earth with unique combination of qualities that no one else has. So when you sense a vague longing or frustration consider this: could it be because you don't fully apply your unique gifts and talents?
Give the task to your creative mind to find the best application of your qualities, search for your purpose and fulfillment. Don't try to copy someone else's success hoping that doing what they did will bring your success too. You won't know what talents they had or what motivated them on their road to success. Search for your uniqueness and encourage your gifts, declare to yourself and to the world that you have a purpose. Then keep your mind open for windows of opportunity when you can act to implement your bright ideas. Challenge yourself to discover what you are capable of! Show your full potential to the world!
Aspire to achieve more!
The true wisdom accumulated by many generations is that the success formula is a variable of which constant is only its being an exception of the rules. Our mind however blindly accepts as truth the general rules which are worth nothing. Vadim Zeland (quantum physicist)
